On 29th June 2023, Ambassador Kwacha Chisiza paid a courtesy call to Mr. Ichiro Aisawa, a Member of the House of Representatives and the current chairman of the Japan-Africa Parliamentary Friendship League at the House of Representatives Members Office in Tokyo.

Ambassador Kwacha Chisiza thanked Mr. Ichiro Aisawa for his active contribution to the establishment and growth of a profound and unique bilateral relationship over several decades, of the Japan – Africa’s and Malawi in particular. He acknowledged TICAD’s progressive Initiatives that had seen remarkable development in diverse sectors – infrastructure, agriculture, health, education, and public and private sector investment, where Japan was providing a strong and meaningful leadership.

The Ambassador took the opportunity to ask for a further consideration in the area of capacity building and knowledge sharing, for interns and students from Malawi. “May you consider advocating for an increased number of interns and student from Malawi, as the current levels are worrisomely low, presenting a huge threat to the materialization of the Malawi’s 2063 development Plan?” Chisiza lobbied.

While acknowledging and noting the concern of capacity building gap as narrated by the ambassador. Mr. Aisawa expressed his desire and commitment to strengthen bilateral collaboration with Malawi, acknowledging that Japan was receiving huge bilateral support from Malawi. Aisawa’s grandfather, the late Mr.Kan Aisawa attended the commemoration of the Malawi’s independence in 1966, as the first Japanese special envoy to Malawi. He(Mr Ichiro) too visited Malawi in 2017, this places Malawi at center of heart of the Aisawa family.
