On 14th June 2023, His Excellency Ambassador Kwacha Chisiza held a meeting with Mr. Toyoaki Fujita, Business Development Executive, Ms. Ai Okada, the Groups Manager and Ms. Yuki Kumajima, Specialist from Toshiba, a well-known Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation at the Chancery.
The meeting focused on the opportunities for geothermal renewable energy in Malawi.
Fujita took pride in Toshiba’s position as a global manufacturing technology leader with extensive experience in geothermal power sector. He noted the significant potential that Malawi enjoys in the geothermal energy source, which prompted Toshiba and Malawi into signing a Memorandum of Understanding in 2018. He also hinted that, should Malawian government think of proceeding with the desire to invest in geothermal power generation, Toshiba was ready to provide the needed support.
The Ambassador commended Toshiba for partnering with Malawi in bid to develop the green energy sector. He also pledged his total support for any program aimed at improving Malawi’s energy sector, noting that energy remains the backbone of the country’s growth and development.
