On 8th June, 2023, His Excellency, Ambassador Kwacha Chisiza had an interface with the newly elected society’s leadership, whose composition is; the Coordinator, Mr. Clever Nkhokwe Kanga, Communications Officer, Mr. Davie Kenneth, and the Social Welfare Officer, Ms. Natasha Mtika at the Embassy’s Office.
The Ambassador congratulated the new leadership for being elected into their respective new roles. He then implored them to leverage their one-year tenure of office by developing a seamless framework aimed at scaling up access to quality education, in line with the trajectory toward the attainment of the 2063 development agenda. “I appeal to you, to be instrumental in assisting more Malawians to come and study in Japan through provision of scholarship awareness and mentorship” said Kwacha Chisiza.
The SMS leadership thanked the ambassador for hosting and giving them space to contribute to the development of Malawi from education sphere.
The coordinator of the SMS, Mr clever Nkhokwe, listed a few names of scholarship routes as follows; The World Bank, Japan Government (MEXT), Honjo Foundation, Nitori Foundation, University Specific, Ashinaga, and African Development Bank (AfDB). He also informed the meeting that they were hatching plans to organize another WEBINAR this year, of course with the assistance of the embassy, to make more Malawian aware of available opportunities for scholarships in Japan. The ambassador retaliated by assuring the SMS leadership of his readiness to provide the needed assistance.
The Ambassador was flanked by diplomats at the embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Japan.
