JATA hosted its 67th Annual General Meeting on June 22, 2023, in the Keidanren Kaikan Hall, with Tourism Member of the House of Representatives, JATA Chairperson, Governors, Ambassadors and diplomats, travel agencies, and other stakeholders in attendance. The embassy was represented by Third Secretary ,Ms Mercy Belekanyama.

Speakers at the event included JATA Chairperson Mr. Hiroyuki Takahashi, Member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Toshihiro Nikai, Ambassador of Turkey, Mr. Korkut Gungen, and Mr. Kabashima, Governor of Kumamoto Prefecture.

The speakers stressed that tourism is a unique industry that reveals society and contributes to national peace, and that it is more than just a basic economic activity; it is a worldwide sector. It was argued that tourist development necessitates a full-fledged tourism rebound that supports regional economies. As a result, the global community, travel agents, and other stakeholders play critical roles in tourist restoration efforts in cities and nations devastated by natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

JATA is an association recognised by the Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency based on the Travel Agency Law. It aims to improve the quality of services offered to and from Japan. It contributes to the growth of the travel and tourist industry through a variety of activities such as information dissemination, fostering member cooperation, and advocating the development of enterprises and laws that will benefit the membership and the industry as a whole.
